Our Values

At Encounter Covenant Church, our values are rooted in Ephesians 2:19-22, where we are reminded that we are united in Christ and called to live by His teachings. We value hospitality and welcome, extending love and kindness to all, making everyone feel at home. Jesus is the center of our faith, and we rely on Godโ€™s Word to guide us and transform our hearts. We believe in being interconnected and interdependent, growing together as one body in Christ. Finally, we seek to live empowered by the Holy Spirit, trusting in His strength to help us fulfill Godโ€™s purpose in our lives.

Hospitality and Welcome

We strive to make everyone feel at home, welcoming people with love and kindness, regardless of background or status. We aim to reflect God's love in how we treat others, reminding them they are valued by God and His people.

Jesus is the Center and Godโ€™s Word is our Rule of Life

Our faith is built on Jesus as the cornerstone, and we rely on God's Word to guide us. We center our lives around Christ, allowing His teachings to shape and transform us as we grow closer to Him.

Interconnected and Interdependent

We are stronger when we come together as a community. Every individual is significant, but true fulfillment comes from working in unity with others, with Christ as our head, to grow and serve as one body.

Living by the Power of the Holy Spirit

Living by the Holy Spirit allows us to do more than we could on our own. We believe in the Spirit's power to equip us for greater fruitfulness and to guide us in living out God's will for our lives.

Our Beliefs

At Encounter Church, we embrace the beliefs of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada. As part of this denomination, we share a rich theological heritage shaped by Scripture. While we do not follow a written creed, our core beliefs define our identity as a Christian community.

When a church joins the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada, it is asked two key questions:

  1. โ€œDo you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and promise to follow Him as Lord?โ€
  2. โ€œDo you accept the Holy Scriptures, the Old and New Testaments, as the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct?โ€

Churches also commit to living as faithful followers of Christ and active members of the Covenant Church. These simple yet profound questions reflect a deep and ongoing commitment to the gospel.

While no creed is required, the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada upholds key theological convictions, known as affirmations, that guide our faith and life together. We invite you to explore these affirmations and see how they resonate with your own faith journey.

  • We affirm the centrality of the Word of God

We believe that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God and the final authority for our faith, doctrine, and conduct. It is God's revealed truth, guiding us to live as His people in the world.

  • We affirm the necessity of new birth

We believe that all people are born with a sinful nature and need to be born again through faith in Jesus Christ. This new birth comes by God's grace and is made possible by the Holy Spirit, leading us into a new life as followers of Christ.

  • We affirm the personal work of Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human, who came to earth to save us from sin and death. Through His life, death, and resurrection, we are reconciled to God and empowered to live according to His will.

  • We affirm the power of the Holy Spirit

We believe in the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to live as faithful followers of Christ. The Spirit convicts, equips, and guides us as we seek to live out our faith and share the good news of Jesus with others.

  • We affirm the community of believers

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, a community of believers called to worship, serve, and grow together. As a covenant people, we are committed to living out our faith in fellowship and supporting one another in our spiritual journeys.

  • We affirm the mission of the church

We believe that the church exists to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, make disciples, and serve others in love. We are called to live out our faith in action, seeking to bring God's Kingdom to earth through acts of justice, mercy, and compassion.

  • We affirm the reality of the Kingdom of God

We believe that God's Kingdom is both a present reality and a future hope. As believers, we are called to live in light of God's Kingdom, bringing His justice, peace, and love into the world while anticipating its ultimate fulfillment in Christ's return.
